Hambledon spin all-rounder Justin Behrens bowled his Cape Town club Western Province to an emphatic 98-run win over UWC (University of the Western Cape) in the weather delayed opening round of WPCA Premier Division matches.
Behrens, left, who topped the Southern Premier Division 1 bowling charts this past summer, took 5-41 as WPCC comfortably defended 259-9 by dismissing UWC for 161.
Burridge past and present pair Nathan Schoultz and Geoff Dods rallied Cape Town from 14-3 and later 45-5 (Fareham & Crofton's Craig Jeffery 21) with 73 and 55* respectively and enabled their side to post 220-7. But Rondebosch blew the target away for the loss of only one wicket.
Basingstoke & North Hants opener Dubs Wood made an unbeaten 56 on debut for Newcastle City in the Northern New South Wales Premier League against Wests.
Rain hit the club cricket in Melbourne, but a few thousand miles away in Perth, Melville were resoundingly thrashed by Rockingham Mandurah. Portsmouth's Fraser Hay, who made a century in the previous weekend's defeat by Bayswater Morley, has been ousted as captain, but still top scored with 34 in Melville's 137 all out. Rockingham made 304-5.
